Lauderdale Lakes Wet Meet, June 25, 2011

Lauderdale Lakes MeetThanks to all: The Motorheads /Prop Dusters outboard meet could not have been better! The weather was perfect the water was perfect and the swap wasn't bad either! All I heard from everyone was what a nice facility at Lauderdale Landing was and how nice the lakes were. We all ran our boats through out the water ways and saw alot of neat stuff! At one time I counted 15 boats with good old iron tied up to the piers while we were taking a break for lunch. There was still more guys out exploring also. Thanks to all who attended,we will look forward to returning to this great place! We can all thank Jeff Hagstotz for getting this meet going!

Lindy's Landing Meet, October 9, 2010

Lindy's LandingWell if you were able to attend the Lindey's meet you sure had a great day to run your boat and just hang out! I am sure glad I didn't go up north and went to the meet instead. We had everything from 2 hydroplanes, runabouts and row boats cruising in the summer like weather. We were all glad to see Dave Wilson's latest project make its first appearance and it is a real beauty. NICE JOB DAVE! Some motors and other items were bought and sold in the swap.We had a good Lindey's lunch and were then invited to take a ride across the lake in our boats to see Dale Berger's collection of wood boats and antique outboards on display at his boat house, which all who made it enjoyed. Dale invited us back as a club next time we are back on the lake. I would like to thank Ron Vaughn Sr.and Ron Vaughn Jr. for putting the Lindey's meet together for all. It was a great time as usual!

The Motorheads were very well received by all! I gave out a few apps. for new membership and I had many people stop by the display to look, learn and reminisce about old outboards it was truly worth while my family and myself we had a great experience I hope next year we can get more members to attend.

Lake Como Meet, September 12, 2010

Lake Como MeetWell to start off the weather was about the best it could be! Members showed up pretty early and set up their swap items and boats. We really had a great boat turn out. I think the first boat in was my dad turning some laps in his race boat. The rest of us soon followed and cruised in style comming back into the pier and taking diffent people out for rides. I think we had motors from the 20' to the 60's at hand. Now I really want to give thanks to Mars owner Don and his staff! Don gave raffel tickets out to all involved in the meet and the prizes were just plain fantastic! Fish fry dinners, and many many bottels of liquor he really went all out again ! I ask that we all please thank Don and staff when you get a chance he really gave some nice stuff and A LOT of it ! At the end of the day we loaded up our boats and headed for home ,but my son Kyle and I made one more stop, Lake Geneva. We were going around the South West side of the lake and I turned to my son and said well should we go for a ride and before I finished my sentence I heard just a big YES! So we topped off with fuel and put the old Lone Star in and cruised for 2 more hours.

Tomahawk Nationals 2010To all Motorheads, Well another Tomahawk meet has come and gone and I can tell you it was one of the best vacations I have had. The swap was good, there was some deals on some nice motors and parts. The weather could have not been better which made for some real good cruising and exploring on lake Mohawksin for those who brought boats. Also the Kids and I got to run our Hydroplane with all of the others on Wednsday and Friday, that was just awesome we really got alot of run time. On Thursday we met in the afternoon and had a nice Motorheads club cook out that everyone enjoyed so yes we will do it again next year! I just can't say enough about the Tomahawk Nationals, Bob and Karen Dalle Ave and all others involved just do a terrific job!

Annual Dry Meet at Paul Miller's, May 8, 2010

First we need to thank Paul Miller and his wife Cindy. As most of you know, our meet at Paul's was a huge success. The weather tried us again, but as usual we were to busy with swapping and talking motors to care. The day started with everyone arriving and setting up their displays and swap spaces. My sons Vince Jr. and Kyle helped me set up the motor contest and raffle table, while Paul Miller made sure everything was set for the guests. Paul's wife Cindy finished all of the food for our lunch and every one thought it was marvelous!

As the day went on, motors and parts were sold. A fantastic lunch was served and then we moved to our raffle were several motors and boating /fishing items were raffled off to the lucky ticket holders. Thanks to all that donated prizes, the club made over $125!

After the raffle, we moved on to our favorite motor contest which was voted on “peoples choice” style. 1st place went to a really nice Sea King that belonged to new member Gary Pierce. 2nd place went to Dave Wilson with his Elto. 3rd Place went to Jerry Miers and his 1957 Johnson 18 horse. The ugliest running motor went to Matt Linn and his old Elto. Thank you to all who participated and voted in the contest.

We also took a short break to talk a little about our up coming meets and then while we had Dave Wilson, former president captive, we presented him a plaque for his hard work as president. Dave was president of the Motorheads from the day it started until last February.

All through the day we all got to see some of Paul Millers handy work in his wood shop on many of the boats and canoes that he is bringing back to life. After the meet came to an end, Paul set up to trap shoot and a few of us hung around to take part. Also, thanks again Paul and Peter Muller for working with us on that, my two sons are still talking about how much fun they had!

Motorheads Business Meeting
Stietz's Resort, February 20, 2010

Motorheads Business MeetingThe Motorheads of Illinois kicked off the 2010 season Saturday, February 20 at Stietz's Resort in Antioch. The snow made for a day of cold feet, but the the enthusiasm of the attendees was great. 30 members and friends attended and displayed a great deal of cabin- fever -inspired talk about the upcoming year. Four new members signed up. A great meal at Stietz's was shared and a new president, Vince Heywood, was installed. Let's do all we can to support Vince in the upcoming year.

Thanks for the opportunity to serve as the first president of the Motorheads, it was a great honor.

Chicago Boat, RV and Outdoors Show in McCormick Place,
January 13-17, 2010

Chicago Boat and RV ShowThanks to the members who came out to help with the booth duty…Jeff Hagstotz., Greg Bulat, Vince Heywood & Paul Miller. It was a long 4 days setting up, answering questions and acting like the “Antiques Roadshow” when we were asked about the value of their old motor.

Hundreds of attendees had a chance to look at a piece of history in our motors and Paul's canoes. The turnout from MOTORHEADS members could certainly been much greater but we're looking forward to better attendance at the Sportsmen's show at the Rosemont later this month. Our members will get a discount to the show. Dave Wilson has the code number to obtain the discount. We have signed up 8 new members and now have over 70 paid up. Our membership sign up sheets were almost all gone.

Numerous people came up to us wanting to talk about “that old motor in the garage”…hopefully we'll have more members at the next show to help the people who want to get rid of “dad's old” parts & motors in their garages. Hope to see you all there…Jerry
