Annual Dry Meet at Paul Miller's, May 8, 2010

First we need to thank Paul Miller and his wife Cindy. As most of you know, our meet at Paul's was a huge success. The weather tried us again, but as usual we were to busy with swapping and talking motors to care. The day started with everyone arriving and setting up their displays and swap spaces. My sons Vince Jr. and Kyle helped me set up the motor contest and raffle table, while Paul Miller made sure everything was set for the guests. Paul's wife Cindy finished all of the food for our lunch and every one thought it was marvelous!

As the day went on, motors and parts were sold. A fantastic lunch was served and then we moved to our raffle were several motors and boating /fishing items were raffled off to the lucky ticket holders. Thanks to all that donated prizes, the club made over $125!

After the raffle, we moved on to our favorite motor contest which was voted on “peoples choice” style. 1st place went to a really nice Sea King that belonged to new member Gary Pierce. 2nd place went to Dave Wilson with his Elto. 3rd Place went to Jerry Miers and his 1957 Johnson 18 horse. The ugliest running motor went to Matt Linn and his old Elto. Thank you to all who participated and voted in the contest.

We also took a short break to talk a little about our up coming meets and then while we had Dave Wilson, former president captive, we presented him a plaque for his hard work as president. Dave was president of the Motorheads from the day it started until last February.

All through the day we all got to see some of Paul Millers handy work in his wood shop on many of the boats and canoes that he is bringing back to life. After the meet came to an end, Paul set up to trap shoot and a few of us hung around to take part. Also, thanks again Paul and Peter Muller for working with us on that, my two sons are still talking about how much fun they had!

Motorheads Business Meeting
Stietz's Resort, February 20, 2010

Motorheads Business MeetingThe Motorheads of Illinois kicked off the 2010 season Saturday, February 20 at Stietz's Resort in Antioch. The snow made for a day of cold feet, but the the enthusiasm of the attendees was great. 30 members and friends attended and displayed a great deal of cabin- fever -inspired talk about the upcoming year. Four new members signed up. A great meal at Stietz's was shared and a new president, Vince Heywood, was installed. Let's do all we can to support Vince in the upcoming year.

Thanks for the opportunity to serve as the first president of the Motorheads, it was a great honor.

Chicago Boat, RV and Outdoors Show in McCormick Place,
January 13-17, 2010

Chicago Boat and RV ShowThanks to the members who came out to help with the booth duty…Jeff Hagstotz., Greg Bulat, Vince Heywood & Paul Miller. It was a long 4 days setting up, answering questions and acting like the “Antiques Roadshow” when we were asked about the value of their old motor.

Hundreds of attendees had a chance to look at a piece of history in our motors and Paul's canoes. The turnout from MOTORHEADS members could certainly been much greater but we're looking forward to better attendance at the Sportsmen's show at the Rosemont later this month. Our members will get a discount to the show. Dave Wilson has the code number to obtain the discount. We have signed up 8 new members and now have over 70 paid up. Our membership sign up sheets were almost all gone.

Numerous people came up to us wanting to talk about “that old motor in the garage”…hopefully we'll have more members at the next show to help the people who want to get rid of “dad's old” parts & motors in their garages. Hope to see you all there…Jerry
